‘A Night for Cull’ On 15th November 2019

Last Updated: August 1, 2019

On Friday 15th November 2019, the iconic Empire Music Hall will play host to an incredible line up of music and comedy, hosted by local comedian Dave Elliott. Irish folk legends, The Rapparees will feature on the bill alongside BT9’s very own Paddy Raff, with more comedians to be announced.

Rory Girvan (a close friend) suggests that as it begins to approach two years since Cull left us, we should begin the process of celebrating his life while remembering the values that he stood for, how he made those around him feel and the positive impact that his personality and talents had on us in the 33 years that preceded those final weeks. “He brought so much love, fun and laughter into our lives. We must never forget that!” says his brother Colm Cullen.

With this theme in mind, we are continuing to reach our goal of raising £33,000. One thousand pounds for every year Cull was alive. This funding will go towards Tamhi (Tackling Awareness of Mental Health issues), Community Rescue Service Belfast and Inspire. In combination, these organisations cover the full spectrum of prevention and intervention from both a local to national level with reference to mental health.

With this money and your genorousity, TAMHI will plan to increase the reach of their programmes aimed at young people in disadvantaged areas in Belfast, focusing on the areas of our community in which suicide is THREE TIMES higher. One programme launched in schools last year, the ‘Mental Wealth Games’, has already saved two lives (that we know of) as a result of their amazing work. COMMUNITY RESCUE SERVICE BELFAST will use their share to buy a new emergency response vehicle for the Belfast area, which will be of substantial help to their mission. Finally, INSPIRE will pilot a new scheme in schools, sports groups, youth clubs and community groups over the next year in the North Down & Ards area as part of the mental health anti-stigma campaign, with the intention of eventually rolling this out across Northern Ireland.

Don’t miss out on what is set to be an unbelievable night in memory of our brother Cull and his legacy. Rest assured there will be some feet stamping, hand-clapping and belly laughing along the way!
